Find a Grave

Find a grave was a website that was developed to help people see graves of famous people.  Here, at find a grave, you can see the graves of famous people like Karl Marx or Al Capone.

Interest grew in the website and it is now a very good site for genealogy use.  You can look up your ancestral names and many of them will have a picture of their grave site, already.  If not, there are volunteers that will go take the picture for you.

How it Works

Volunteers from around the world will go to grave sites and take pictures.  That way, you can get a picture of a grave, across the country, that you are interested in.  This is important because a grave marker is one of the three things you need as proof of death.  It can also comfort loved ones to know where their ancestors are buried.  Lastly, you can know that the person resided near the area.

Get an Account

It’s easy to get an account.  Simply go to http://www.findagrave.com and sign up.  Then, you can start looking for graves, on your own, or you may wish to volunteer to take pictures for those in need.

Find a grave was founded by Tim Tipton in 1995.
