Family History
The LDS or Mormon Church used to always call family history genealogy. However, it would confuse people. To make matters easier, people started to use family history as a genealogical term because it was easier to understand. Today, even though the terms genealogy and family history are ubiquitous, people most often use the term family history.
Family history is an important work to perform. Many families have strengths and weaknesses. For example, a family may be strong in wealth building, but have weak family ties, and vice versa.
It is also true that it is difficult to see your own weaknesses. Many of us look at ourselves as charming and intelligent when in fact our true nature may be shy and overconfident.
Family history allows you a birds eye view of what is going on. You can get the big picture of why people do what they do and how they react to different things. That is why many people find it so fun to do. In addition, you will find that you feel closer to your relatives. This may not make sense to you, at first, but, over time, you will feel closeness to those you have never met before. When this happens, you will become a true genealogist and you might even start spending a lot of time doing genealogy; just for fun.
