Vital records are things like birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, divorce certificates, and social security cards. For your convenience there is a large free database called http://www.vitalrec.com
There is a small fee to get the records. In many cases, you send in through postal mail a SASE and a check that reads amount not to exceed five dollars. That way, they will just charge you what the cost is and you don’t have to worry about it being way too high.
